Abstract

The digital era has now made social media a social learning platform that has a significant influence on student character development. The purpose of this article is to explore how social media functions strategically in student character development, with digital literacy as the main foundation for responsible social media use. This study applies a literature review method with a qualitative approach and thematic analysis of relevant local and international journal articles in the last five years (2020–2025). The results of the analysis indicate that well-directed social media use can encourage character values ​​such as responsibility, empathy, collaboration, and digital ethics, especially when supported by critical digital literacy. Furthermore, the effectiveness of digital character formation is influenced by collaboration between schools, families, and communities as three educational institutions. These findings confirm that digital literacy is not merely a technical skill, but also a new moral foundation in education in the 21st century.
