Abstract

Background: Diarrhea is an endemic disease with a potential to become an epidemic in Indonesia. Diarrhea most often occurs in children under five years of age. This study aimed to determine the relationship between biopsychosocial factors, environmental factor, and diarrhea occurrence in Surakarta, Central Java, using multilevel analysis.Subjects and Method: This was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. This study was conducted on October 2017 - April 2018. A sample of 200 children under five years of age was selected by fixed disease sampling, consisting of 100 children with diarrhea and 100 without diarrhea. The dependent variable was the incidence of diarrhea. The independent variables were the number of family members, maternal knowledge, maternal personal hygiene, and environmental sanitation. The data were collected by questionnaire and analyzed by multilevel logistic regression in Stata 13.Results: The number of family member (b= 1.09; 95% CI= 0.02 to 2.15; p< 0.046) increased the risk of diarrhea. Good maternal knowledge (b= -2.30; 95% CI= -3.46 to -1.14; p<0.001), good maternal personal hygiene (b= -2.09; 95% CI= -3.48to-0.70; p<0.003), and good environmental sanitation (b= -1.64; 95% CI= -2.84to -0.43; p= 0.008) decreased the risk of diarrhea in children under five. The village had a substantial contextual effect on the incidence of diarrhea with ICC= 66.14%.Conclusion: The number of family member increases the risk of diarrhea. Good maternal knowledge, good maternal personal hygiene, and good environmental sanitation decrease the risk of diarrhea in children under five. Village has a substantial contextual effect on the incidence of diarrheaKeywords: diarrhea, number of family member, maternal knowledge, maternal personal hygiene, village, contextual effectCorrespondence:

Abstract

Background:  Anxiety and depression can happen to anyone, especially in patients with certain diseases. Anxiety and depression can affect activity, and reduce quality of sleep, and life. Electroacupuncture is one of the therapies with small side effects to reduce anxiety and depression and provide a sedative effect. This study aims to analyze and estimate the effectiveness of electroacupuncture therapy to reduce anxiety and depression in patients based on the results of similar studies.Subjects and Method:  This study used a systematic review and meta-analysis based on PICO, Population: Patients. Intervention: Electroacupuncture. Comparison: NonElectroacupuncture. Outcome: Decreased anxiety and depression. Data were obtained from Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct Hindawi, BMC, and Springer Link databases from 2010 to 2023. The search process used the keywords "electroacupuncture" AND "anxiety" OR "depression" AND "RCT". Article selection used the PRISMA flowchart and the results were analyzed using Review Manager 5.3 software. Results: 9 articles from Brazil, Spain, Hong Kong, and China with a sample size of 458 subjects were used in a meta-analysis of the effectiveness of electroacupuncture to reduce anxiety. And as many as 11 articles from Brazil, Spain, Hong Kong, and China with a sample size of 555 subjects were used for a meta-analysis of the effectiveness of electroacupuncture to reduce depression with an RCT study design. The results of the meta-analysis showed that patients who received electroacupuncture therapy intervention experienced an average of 0.68 units lower in anxiety (SMD=0.68; 95% CI= 1.04 to 0.33; p=0.001) and 0.51 units lower in depression (SMD =0.51; 95% CI= 0.86 to 0.16; p=0.004) compared to the group without electroacupuncture therapy. Conclusion:  Electroacupuncture therapy reduces anxiety and depression. Keywords:  acupuncture, electroacupuncture, anxiety, depressionCorrespondence:  Yessy Widhi Astuti, Masters Program in Public Health, Universitas Sebelas Maret. Abstract

Background: The increasing consumption of cigarettes that continues to occur among the community has an impact on the higher rates of morbidity and mortality. Active smokers who have a tendency to quit smoking can be identified by measuring their intentions. The theory of planned behavior is a concept that influences the study of an individual's behavior. This study aims to estimate the magnitude of attitudes towards behavior, subjective norms, and perceptions of behavioral control with behavior to stop smoking.Subjects and Method: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis with the acronym PICO, namely population: smokers. Intervention: positive attitude toward behavior, supportive subjective norm, strong perception of behavioral control. Comparison: attitude towards negative behavior, subjective norms do not support, perception of behavior control is weak. Outcome: smoking cessation behavior. Data collection was obtained from 4 databases, namely: Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct and ProQuest with the keywords used "attitude toward behavior" AND "subjective norm" AND "perceived behavior control" AND "quit smoking" OR "quit smoke" OR "smoking cessation". The inclusion criteria used were full English paper with cross sectional design in 2012-2022. The analysis of this study used RevMan 5.3 software.            Results: A total of 7 articles originating from the Asian and American continents were included in this study. Based on the results of the analysis of smokers who had positive behavior (aOR = 2.77; 95% CI = 1.06 to 1.37; p <0.001), subjective norms were supportive (aOR = 1.08; 95% CI = 0.98 to 1.18; p <0.001), as well as perceived control behavioral (aOR = 1.19; 95% CI = 1.00 to 1.42; p < 0.001) were more likely to quit smoking compared to smokers who had negative behavior, unsupportive subjective norms, and weak perceptions of behavioral control. Conclusion: Positive behavior, supportive subjective norms, perception of strong behavioral control increase the likelihood of smoking cessation in active smokers. Keywords: theory of planned behavior, stop smoking, adjusted odds ratio.Correspondence:Mitha Amelia Rahmawati.
