Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a long-term condition that causes various physical, psychological, and social problems for patients. One of the most common psychological issues experienced is anxiety, especially among patients undergoing hemodialysis, which can significantly affect their quality of life. This study aimed to examine the relationship between anxiety levels and quality of life in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at RSUD dr. Harjono Ponorogo. A quantitative method with a cross-sectional design was used. A total of 94 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments were the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) to measure anxiety and the WHOQOL-BREF to assess quality of life. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rho test. The results showed a significant negative correlation between anxiety levels and quality of life (r = -0.612; p = 0.001), indicating that the higher the anxiety level, the lower the quality of life. It was found that 40.4% of respondents experienced mild anxiety, and 41.5% had a good quality of life. These findings highlight the importance of psychosocial interventions in nursing practice, such as counseling, relaxation therapy, and family support, to improve the quality of life of CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis.
