Abstract

The elderly are an age group that is vulnerable to degenerative diseases, one of which is hypercholesterolemia, which is at risk of causing coronary heart disease. Body Mass Index (BMI) is often used as an indicator of nutritional status and metabolic health, which is thought to be closely related to blood cholesterol levels. This study aims to determine the relationship between BMI and total blood cholesterol levels in the elderly in Bono Village, Boyolangu District, Tulungagung Regency. The research method used a correlational quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 40 elderly respondents were selected using purposive sampling technique. BMI data were obtained from the measurement of body weight and height, while cholesterol levels were checked using the Easy Touch GCU tool. The results of the Spearman Rho test showed a significant relationship between BMI and total cholesterol levels (p = 0.001; r = 0.513).
