Abstract

Technology in the educational institution enhances the teaching and learning experiences of both teachers and students. Learning Management System is a technological advancement which has been adopted by several institutions. Not only it helped in delivering online teaching materials but served as a way of communication. This study aimed to develop and validate a rule-based adaptive LMS using the ADDIE model and determine its influence on students’ academic performance. Results showed that regression and correlation analysis identified time spent in LMS (r = +.812) and time spent viewing pages (r = +.877) as statistically significant predictors of academic performance, whereas login frequency (r = –.065) showed negligible effect. Expert and user evaluation rated the system at a “great extent,” with subject matter content, instructional design, and software evaluation emerging as key factors affecting LMS acceptability. Findings suggest that sustained engagement and quality content drive improved performance.

Abstract

The unprecedented rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in 2022 has compelled leading universities to articulate formal policies governing its pedagogical and research applications. Yet coherent guidance for higher education systems—particularly in the Global South—remains underdeveloped. This study undertook a thematic analysis of AI policies issued by the top 50 institutions in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023, employing Chan’s (2023) pedagogical, governance, and operational dimensions as analytic lenses. The analysis demonstrates a global convergence around AI’s pedagogical utility and research-enhancing potential, tempered by robust institutional commitments to academic integrity, responsible deployment, and the ethical management of AI-generated content. Universities are also investing in interdisciplinary AI initiatives, cultivating industry partnerships, and adopting differentiated approaches to instructor autonomy in regulating classroom AI use. These insights offer a critical foundation for Philippine higher education institutions seeking to articulate contextually grounded, ethically defensible, and future-oriented approaches to AI governance.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being integrated into education, offering new ways to address global learning challenges. This study examines the development and effectiveness of MiniXplorer, a mobile application powered by Google’s Machine Learning Kit (ML Kit) for image recognition and Text-to-Speech (TTS) technology. The project also considers how the app contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education). The study followed a descriptive-developmental design using a mixed-methods approach. MiniXplorer was tested in different image conditions (e.g., resolution, format, lighting, and noise), underwent automated compatibility checks, and was assessed for security risks. User experiences were evaluated following the ISO/IEC 25010 quality standards, with data collected from surveys, interviews, and observations. MiniXplorer showed strong performance, working best with natural lighting, .jpg formats, and front or side object views (average ratings between 2.50–2.83 on a 3-point scale). It was also capable of handling partial obstructions and more complex image scenarios. Automated testing confirmed smooth compatibility with modern Android operating systems. Users gave positive feedback across all ISO 25010 criteria, with particularly high scores in functional suitability (1.42–2.00), usability (1.49), and reliability (1.75). Two minor security issues were detected but were promptly resolved. MiniXplorer has proven to be an engaging, accessible, and effective educational tool for young learners. Its design and performance support the goals of SDG 4, SDG 9 and SDG 10 by promoting inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education through the use of affordable AI technologies.
