Abstract

Sauropus androgynus L. is an indigenous leafy vegetable with high nutritional value that is commonly propagated vegetatively through stem cuttings. The success of cutting propagation is influenced by the quality of planting material and the application of plant growth regulators (PGRs). This study aimed to evaluate the effects of cutting length and natural plant growth regulators on the vegetative growth of S. androgynus and to determine the best treatment combination for promoting plant growth. The experiment was conducted at the Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science, Universitas Ma'arif Nahdlatul Ulama Kebumen, Indonesia, from May to June 2026 using a two-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. The first factor was the type of plant growth regulator, consisting of a control (water), 100% coconut water, and 100% rice washing water, while the second factor was cutting length, consisting of 45 cm, 60 cm, and 75 cm. The observed parameters included shoot length, number of leaves, stem diameter, root length, root fresh weight, and root dry weight. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% significance level when significant differences were detected. The results showed that cutting length significantly affected the number of leaves and root fresh weight, whereas the type of plant growth regulator had no significant effect on any of the observed parameters. The interaction between plant growth regulator type and cutting length significantly affected the number of leaves. The treatment using 60 cm long cuttings combined with plain water and rice-washing water yielded the highest number of Sauropus androgynus leaves compared to the other treatment combinations
