Abstract

The electricity supply is not evenly distributed for all regions in Indonesia. This is due to the lack of transportation access to reach these areas because of difficult terrain conditions. One of abundant energy sources available in nature is water, which can be used for micro-level power generation. Micro hydro generator usually uses a waterfall with a high head. However, not all of the water flow has a head tall. Therefore, this study proposes a promising prototype of a cone basin-based Gravitational Water Vortex Power Plant (GWVPP). The purpose of this study is to determine the performance of the cone basin-based GWVPP prototype by variation in the number of blades. The vortex turbine is designed with a water flow rate of 169.63 liters/minute and a cone basin with square-shaped blades and variations in the number of blades, namely 2, 4, and 6, with the same turbine blade area of 0.01 m2 . It was found that an increase in the number of blades enhances mechanical characteristics of, e.g. torque and rotational speed, as well as electrical characteristics, e.g. voltage, current, and electric power. The maximum result is achieved when the number of blades is six with the rated power of 5 mW and the rotation speed of 119.351 rpm.

Abstract

Electrical energy has become a basic need of modern society, but the supply of electricity has not yet fully met the needs of the community. Many potential energy sources can be converted into electrical energy. One potential of energy sources is water flow which can be used for micro-hydro power plants in remote areas. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the Archimedes screw turbine of micro-hydro power plant, in particular concerning on variations in the elevation angle of the turbine. Characteristics determination was carried out on a prototype of a micro-hydro power plant using a Brush Less Direct Current (BLDC) generator and two blades of Archimedes screw turbine. The varied turbine elevation-angle was applied, namely 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40o, with a water discharge of 2.64 L/s. The results show that an increase in the turbine elevation angle from 20 to 40o causes an enhancement in mechanical characteristics, i.e. torque and rpm, as well as electrical characteristics, i.e. voltage, current, and electric power. The mechanical and electrical characteristics reach a maximum value at the elevation angle of about 30o, which is 27.87 mW at 1 k O load. Furthermore, increasing the elevation angle to become more than 30o causes a decrease in mechanical and electrical characteristics.

Abstract

Characterization of the effect of temperature on emission intensity ZnO:Zn luminance material has been carried out. This research was conducted to determine the optical properties of ZnO:Zn as a luminous material and the effect of temperature on emission intensity of ZnO luminance material will be analyzed: Zn at 5% dopant concentration. ZnO synthesis was carried out using the solution phase method and in obtaining the ZnO:ZnO:luminous material, the milling method was used. The best absorbance spectrum is produced by ZnO:Zn with the highest calcination temperature of 4000 C. Based on the photoluminniscence spectrum characterization it is known that ZnO: Zn luminance material with temperature variations is capable of emitting green light with a wavelength range of 523 nm. Temperature variation given will affect the high intensity of ZnO emission: Zn produced as the temperature increases.

Abstract

Research on the utilization of heat exhaust from air conditioner (AC) for paddy dryer cup board, has been successfully done. The objective of this research is to get the design of rice dryer cabinets by utilizing the exhaust heat from the air conditioner condenser and adjust the temperature and humidity of the air in the drying cabinet in accordance with the provision in drying process of riceseed. Dryer cabinet made of the type of traydryer, has 4 shelves and made of wood plywood plated aluminum foil dimension 50 cm x 50 cm x 60 cm with a capacityof 2 kg. The temperature and humidity settings of the drying cabinet are designed using SHT 11. This system produces riceseeds with moisture content of 11% after 10 hours of drying process. The temperature setting using exhaust fan works well during the drying process which is set at 30-43ºC, while the air humidity setting using blower can be maintained with valuea bove 42.55%.

Abstract

Research on termoelectric generator for accu charging has been done to know the effect of different use of sield (heating system framework) between plywood and aluminum on TEG heating system. Besides that also to know how much time needed for charging accu as TEG application. This research is focused on making more efficient heating systems, which is done by increasing the efficiency of the TEG module in generating voltage. In this research, it can be concluded that the update of heating system using Alumunium sield can increase the output voltage of the thermoelectric generator by 4.435% compared to the previous research using TEG type SP184827145SA. While the application of charging Accu using TGPR-1W-2V-21S can produce a voltage of 6 ± 0.05 Volt with a currentof 0.43 ± 0.015 Ampere which requires a duration of charging time of 10 hours.
