Abstract

Proper handling of asthmatics can maintain the patient's quality of life. Visits of asthmatic patients to the Emergency Department (ER) indicate uncontrolled asthma and a marker of risk for future asthma exacerbations. Uncontrolled asthma can increase health costs, the risk of hospitalization, and can also cause death. This research at to determine the relationship of acute asthma patients who visit the emergency department with costs of treatment. Analytical descriptive research with cross-sectional study design. The population of this study was acute asthma sufferers who went to the emergency department of RSIJ Pondok Kopi in the period August 1, 2016 – August 1, 2017, and all of the population was used as a sample of 35 people. Data collection is done by studying the documentation of medical record data. The results showed 32.4% of respondents aged 41-49 years, 62.9% were female and had a high school education level (SMA), 40% of respondents were housewives (IRT), 65.7% had acute asthma. moderate, and the most precipitating factor is respiratory tract infection. Most visits to the ER were 30 patients (85.7%) with 1 visit and not accompanied by complications. The results of the highest treatment costs ranged from Rp. 300,000 – Rp. 400,000 as many as 22 patients (62.9%) with guaranteed treatment used were non-BPJS. The costs incurred by each acute asthma patient with 1 visit to the ER are lower than 2 times or more than 2 visits. It was also found that the number of acute asthma patients with complications was greater in costs than those without complications.

Abstract

Uncontrolled hypertension can progress to kidney damage characterized by structural and functional changes, ultimately contributing to kidney fibrosis. Although, hypertension can be treated. However, the prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia is increasing. Therefore, proper treatment is necessary. Elevated levels of Transforming Growth Factor-β1 and Connective Tissue Growth Factor are critical factors that are key drivers of fibrogenic pathway. Appropriate exercise can control blood pressure, renal function, and prevent kidney fibrosis due to hypertension by activating the nitric oxide signaling pathway and reducing the regulation of the TGF-β, p-Smad2/3 and CTGF. This study aims to determine the optimal type of exercise to prevent kidney fibrosis caused by hypertension. Articles used are limited to the publication year between 2018 and 2024. We analyzed the role of exercise on kidney fibrotic pathway in hypertension using PRISMA methods from PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Google Scholar. We found 7 articles and proved several significant effects of exercise on hypertension subjects. This study summarized that moderate-intensity exercise is more influential in controlling blood pressure and renal function, as well as inhibits kidney fibrosis due to hypertension.

Abstract

The elderly are highly susceptible to ascariasis infection because, in addition to the occurrence of immunosenescence, helminths possess the ability to evade host immune responses, making them difficult to eradicate. This community service activity aimed to improve health literacy and early detection of diseases among the elderly in Pejaten, South Jakarta, with a specific focus on Ascariasis. The program was successfully attended by approximately 70 residents, where a medical team from the Faculty of Medicine and Health conducted comprehensive health history assessments and free medical check-ups. This education proved vital as a catalyst for behavioral change, shifting the community's initial perception that worm infections only affect children to an understanding that adults and the elderly are also at high risk. Through health screenings, residents also gained critical insights into their physical condition, including blood pressure, heart, lung, digestive, and skin health, as well as identifying personal risk factors for Ascariasis.

Abstract

The ideal management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus should evolve from mere glucose-lowering strategies to a more comprehensive framework encompassing personalized medicine, technological integration, and systemic organ protection. A significant number of patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) continue to suffer from mortality and serious complications despite being on pharmacological therapy. Although trillions of dollars are spent annually on its management, diabetes remains a leading cause of mortality, claiming millions of lives each year across the globe. Probiotics have been proposed as an adjunctive therapy due to their role in modulating gut microbiota and glucose metabolism. This study aimed to analyze the effect of probiotic supplementation on Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) levels in T2DM patients receiving metformin monotherapy. This experimental study involved 32 respondents, divided into probiotic intervention and placebo groups. FBS levels were measured pre- and post-intervention. Statistical analysis using the Paired T-Test showed a significant reduction in FBS levels (p=0.019). Conclusion: Probiotic supplementation significantly reduced FBS levels in T2DM patients on metformin monotherapy. However, this reduction was not clinically significant, as the final FBS levels did not differ significantly between the probiotic and placebo groups.
