Abstract

Abstract This article focuses on examining the representation of Indonesian women in parliamentary politics 1971-2009. There are many problems faced by women in the field of politics in Indonesia, it turns out that women are still not properly represented. In addition, there is a phenomenon of inequality between men and women who are not fairly included as elements in the role of civil society in a democratic system. Therefore, this article aims to find out how women can develop and participate in the world of parliamentary politics in 1971-2009. This article uses a historical method that includes heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study indicate that the development of Indonesian women's representation in parliament is influenced by domestic political dynamics and several factors become obstacles to the implementation of gender quotas. Women's organizations and civil society play a central role in encouraging greater involvement and representation for women in the public, political, and parliamentary spheres. All of this is done as part of an advocacy effort to create gender-responsive political policies.
