Abstract

The acceleration of the digital ecosystem drives an information flow that is difficult to filter and gives rise to ethical challenges for the religious academic community. Grounded in the values of the Qur’an, this study focuses on the Qur’anic character of students in three practical domains: information verification (tabayyun), ethics of speech (qaulan), and digital responsibility (amanah). The aim of the study is to examine two core questions: (1) how students apply verification before sharing information; and (2) how Qur’anic speech ethics are implemented in digital interactions—and how the dimensions of digital responsibility (permission, attribution, privacy, security) accompany them. The method used is thematic exegesis (mawḍū‘ī) to map the normative foundations of the Qur’an related to these three values, combined with a descriptive qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and light observation in the context of students’ academic/online communication. The data were analyzed thematically with validity assurance through triangulation and member checking. The findings show the emergence of growing epistemic caution—evident from efforts to delay uploading when in doubt, tracing sources, and comparing references—although consistency is not yet uniform across all channels. In the dimension of speech, the tendency to use clarificatory diction, avoid personal attacks, and include references has increased, while in the domain of amanah, the practices of asking permission and giving attribution are relatively understood, but technical aspects (account security, metadata management, privacy protection) remain weak. The practical implication is the need for operational indicators and concise Qur’an-based digital literacy SOPs at the study program level, including multisource verification protocols, data-anchored clarification formats, and responsibility checklists. Conceptually, this study enriches the literature on Qur’anic character in the platform era while also providing an evaluative baseline for strengthening a culture of academic communication that is valid, courteous, and responsible.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the persistence of unethical communication practices, such as negative suspicion, fault-finding, and speaking ill of others in social interaction, including within Islamic boarding schools. It aims to explain the meaning of tajassus and ghibah in QS. Al-Hujurat [49]: 12 according to Hamka’s interpretation in Tafsir Al-Azhar and to analyze their relevance to communication ethics at Darussalam Siunggam Jae Islamic Boarding School. This research uses a qualitative approach by combining library research and fieldwork. Library data were obtained from Tafsir Al-Azhar and related academic literature, while field data were collected through observation and interviews with the pesantren leader, male and female teachers, and students. The data were analyzed descriptively and thematically. The findings show that Hamka interprets tajassus as the act of seeking others’ faults rooted in negative suspicion, while ghibah is understood as talking about someone’s shortcomings behind their back. Both damage honor, trust, and social harmony. The study implies the need to strengthen pesantren communication ethics through husnuzan, tabayyun, self-control in speech, and moral exemplarity

Abstract

The digital economic transformation requires Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) including those in rural areas to shift from cash-based payment systems to cashless systems based on the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS). This community service initiative aims to describe the QRIS implementation process for MSMEs in Nagori Kebun Sayur, Sidamanik District, Simalungun Regency, and to identify the factors facilitating or hindering successful adoption. A descriptive qualitative approach combined with participatory action research was employed, utilizing data collection methods such as observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The program was executed in five stages: initial survey and identification; outreach and education; assistance with QRIS creation and registration; usage training; and ongoing support accompanied by evaluation. The results indicate that prior to the assistance, the majority of MSME operators relied on cash transactions and possessed limited digital understanding; however, following the intervention, there was an increase in understanding, confidence, and interest in adopting QRIS as an additional payment method. Facilitating factors included smartphone ownership, the need to accommodate cashless buyers, and continuous personal guidance, while hindering factors included limited digital literacy, unstable internet connectivity, and ingrained habits of cash-based transactions. These findings underscore that practical, sustained assistance is key to the successful digital economic transformation of MSMEs in rural areas.
