Abstract

Mathematical literacy is an essential competency that enables students to formulate, apply, and interpret mathematical concepts to solve contextual problems. However, the preliminary assessment revealed that the mathematical literacy skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Padang were still relatively low. Although the Discovery Learning model has been widely investigated, its implementation assisted by Electronic Student Worksheets (E-LKPD) on the topic of polyhedrons has not previously been applied in this school. This study aimed to describe the development of students' mathematical literacy skills during the implementation of the Discovery Learning model assisted by E-LKPD and to compare their mathematical literacy skills with those of students receiving conventional instruction. This study employed a quasi-experimental method using a Nonequivalent Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The sample consisted of Class VIII.5 as the experimental group and Class VIII.1 as the control group. Data were collected through quizzes and an essay-based mathematical literacy test and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Mann–Whitney test. The results showed that students in the experimental group demonstrated continuous improvement in all mathematical literacy indicators throughout the learning process. However, the Mann–Whitney test indicated no statistically significant difference in mathematical literacy skills between the experimental and control groups. Therefore, Discovery Learning assisted by E-LKPD supported the development of students' mathematical literacy skills during instruction, although it did not produce a statistically significant advantage over conventional learning. ABSTRAK Kemampuan literasi matematis merupakan kompetensi penting yang diperlukan peserta didik untuk merumuskan, menggunakan, dan menafsirkan konsep matematika dalam menyelesaikan masalah kontekstual. Namun, hasil tes awal menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan literasi matematis peserta didik kelas VIII SMP Negeri 4 Padang masih tergolong rendah. Meskipun model Discovery Learning telah banyak diteliti, penerapannya berbantuan E-LKPD pada materi bangun ruang sisi datar di sekolah ini belum pernah dilakukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan perkembangan kemampuan literasi matematis peserta didik selama penerapan model Discovery Learning berbantuan E-LKPD serta membandingkan kemampuan literasi matematis peserta didik dengan pembelajaran konvensional. Penelitian menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan rancangan Nonequivalent Posttest-Only Control Group Design. Sampel terdiri atas kelas VIII.5 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIII.1 sebagai kelas kontrol. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuis dan tes kemampuan literasi matematis berbentuk esai, kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial menggunakan uji Mann–Whitney. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan literasi matematis peserta didik pada kelas eksperimen mengalami perkembangan yang ditunjukkan oleh peningkatan skor pada setiap indikator literasi matematis selama pembelajaran. Namun, hasil uji Mann–Whitney menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan literasi matematis peserta didik pada kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Dengan demikian, penerapan Discovery Learning berbantuan E-LKPD mampu mendukung perkembangan kemampuan literasi matematis selama proses pembelajaran, meskipun belum menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan dibandingkan pembelajaran konvensional.
