Abstract

Abstract. Badiaraja PH, Zubaidah S, Kuswantoro H. 2021. Maternal effect of agronomic and morphological characters on cluster structure of F3 soybean lines. Biodiversitas 22: 969-982. The study was to determine the maternal effect on the agronomic and morphological characters and their impact on F3 soybean lines cluster structure. The results showed the maternal effect was found in agronomic and morphological characters. In agronomic characters, the maternal effect was shown by plant height, number of productive nodes, number of filled pods, seed weight per plant, and 100-seed weight. In morphological characters, pod width, pod thickness, seed width, and seed thickness were shown by pod width. Based on cluster analysis results, at Grobogan/UM 3-2 cross, the best individuals for the number of branches, the number of productive nodes, the number of filled pods, the number of unfilled pods, the number of seeds per plant, and the seed yield per plant were obtained in Cluster 2. For the 100-seed weight, pod length, pod width, pod thickness, seed width, and seed thickness, the best individuals were in Cluster 1. Meanwhile, at UM 3-2/Grobogan cross, the best individuals for the plant height were in Cluster 2, while seed length was in Cluster 3. For the number of seeds per pod, the best individuals can be obtained from Cluster 6. The maternal-effect led to the cluster structure differed between cross and its reciprocal.

Abstract

Abstract. Tarigan MRM, Corebima AD, Zubaidah S, Rohman F. 2021. Arthropods discovered in lower and upper pitchers of Nepenthes at Rampa-Sitahuis Hill, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 22: 5358-5366. This research aimed to identify the families of arthropods trapped in the upper and lower pitchers of Nepenthes in Rampa Sitahuis Hill Area, North Sumatra, Indonesia. This descriptive qualitative research used an experimental method of data analysis. The arthropods were obtained from the upper and lower pitchers of N. rafflesiana, N. gracilis, N. eustachya, N. ampullaria, and N. sumatrana. Consequently, ten families of arthropods, namely Culicidae, Formicidae, Araneidae, Calliphoridae, Rhyparochromidae, Salticidae, Curculionidae, Blattellidae, Coccinellidae, and Tridactylidae were identified. Culicidae and Formicidae were the most abundant arthropods trapped in Nepenthes’ lower and upper pitchers because Nepenthes functioned as a microhabitat and breeding ground for Culicidae (adult mosquitoes) and Formicidae (ant larvae). Thus, these species established a mutualistic symbiosis in which ants used the tendrils of Nepenthes to lay their eggs and collected nectar generated by the honey glands, while the egg-laying process aids in the pitcher’s breakdown process.

Abstract

Abstract. Fahmi MIN, Mahanal S, Zubaidah S, Ibrohim. 2025. Comparing diatom diversity over three decades in the Brantas River, Malang, East Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 26: 2519-2530. Diatoms are highly sensitive to environmental changes, making them reliable bioindicators. However, there is limited research on their long-term use in the Brantas River, Malang, Indonesia. This study aimed to compare the diatom diversity of the Brantas River, over three decades. This study was conducted at five observation stations during the dry season, and the results obtained from the comparison of species richness and diatom diversity index values revealed a significant downward trend at Stations II to V from the 1990s to the 2020s. Conversely, Station I exhibited relatively stable values for species richness and diatom diversity index. The results of the comparison of the density of genera and order for three decades showed the same results, with the genera Cocconies and the order Pennales being the most common species found. A meticulous examination of the prevalent species at the Station I consistently yielded analogous results over the course of three decades (Achnanthes lanceolata, Cocconeis placentula, and Nitzschia tryblionella). In contrast, Stations II to V exhibited fluctuations in the predominant species with each successive decade of observation. Based on the values of species richness, diversity index, and predominant species, it is suspected that there is a decrease in river water quality at Stations II to V from the 1990s to the 2020s, but not at Station I. This phenomenon may have been caused by environmental pollution and anthropogenic activities at Stations II-V. In contrast, Station I showed relatively the same water quality because it was located in a conservation area with minimal anthropogenic human activity. This study is limited to assessing water quality based on diatom diversity. Further research is needed to assess the physicochemical properties of the Brantas River in Malang.
