Abstract. Ramayanti I, Herlinda S, Muslim A, Hasyim H. 2022. First report of entomopathogenic fungi from South Sumatra (Indonesia): pathogenicity to egg, larvae, and adult of Culex quinquefasciatus. Biodiversitas 23: 5695-5702. Mosquito control has currently used many biocontrol agents, such as entomopathogenic fungi. So, the study aimed to determine the pathogenicity of the entomopathogenic fungi from South Sumatra to the eggs, larvae, and adults of Culex quinquefasciatus. The fungal isolates used were eight isolates from South Sumatra and have been identified molecularly. The fungal species that were the most pathogenic to the eggs of Cx. quinquefasciatus were Beauveria bassiana (BSwTd4, TaLmME, TaPsBA isolates), Metarhizium anisopliae (MSwTp3 isolate), Penicillium citrinum (BKbTp isolate), and Talaromyces diversus (MSwTp1 isolate). The Cx. quinquefasciatus eggs infected with the fungus not only could kill the eggs but also could continue to kill the emerging larvae, pupae, and adult. This is the first record that B. bassiana, M. anisopliae, P. citrinum, and T. diversus from South Sumatera Indonesia were pathogenic to the eggs of Cx. quinquefasciatus and had ovicidal activity. The most pathogenic fungal species to the larvae of Cx. quinquefasciatus were M. anisopliae (MSwTp3 isolate) and B. bassiana (BSwTd4 and TaLmME isolates). Three species of entomopathogenic fungi that were the most pathogenic to the adults of Cx. quinquefasciatus were M. anisopliae (MSwTp3 isolate), B. bassiana (BSwTd4 and TaLmME isolates), and P. citrinum (BKbTp isolate). Finally, The entomopathogenic fungi from South Sumatra have the negative effect on Cx. quinquefasciatus growth. The entomopathogenic fungi from South Sumatra have potential to be developed as the ovicide, larvicide, and adulticide. The future application of the fungi against the mosquito eggs, larvae, and adults can be used an ovitrap, fungal spores formulated in a synthetic oil, and fungus-impregnated black cloths, respectively.

Species diversity and abundance of parasitoids of fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) from South Sumatra, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 24: 6184-6190. The parasitoid species attacking Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) have never been reported from South Sumatra. The objectives of this research were to identify and analyze the species diversity of egg and larval parasitoids of S. frugiperda and to determine their abundance in corn fields from South Sumatra. Surveys were carried out in Ogan Komering Ilir District, Ogan Ilir District, Muara Enim District, and Palembang City. The results showed that fourteen species of parasitoids were found attacking eggs and larvae of S. frugiperda in South Sumatra. Two species were egg parasitoids (Telenomus remus (Nixon) and Trichogramma sp.), and 12 species of larval parasitoids (Chelonus formosanus Sonan, Chelonus oculator F., Chelonus annulipes Wesm., Chelonus cautus (Cresson), Microplitis manilae Ashmead, Microplitis marshallii Kokujev, Euplectrus corriemoreauae Hansson, Compsilura concinnata (Meigen), Sarcophaga sp., Macrocentrus sp., Exorista sp., and Megaselia sp.). The most abundant species of the parasitoids found was T. remus. The highest species diversity was found in Muara Enim District. The number of parasitoid species was greater in the dry season compared to the rainy season. Egg parasitism rates were significantly higher at the corn vegetative stage (59.03%) compared to the generative stage (53.56%).

Biodiversitas 26: 5595-5611. Information on insect pollinator species of oil palm is crucial for management strategies that support sustainable production. This study aimed to identify pollinator insect species found in South Sumatra, Indonesia, and analyze their species diversity and abundance. Pollinators were sampled from male and female inflorescences at four time intervals (08:00-09:59 a.m., 10:00-11:59 a.m., 02:00-03:59 p.m., and 04:00-05:59 p.m.) using anthesis-based collection methods. The result showed that Elaeidobius kamerunicus and Elaeidobius spp. were the most common insect pollinators in oil palm production areas, occurring from lowland to midland regions. These species were present on both male and female inflorescences but were more abundant on male inflorescences, with peak activity recorded between 8:00 a.m. and 11:59 a.m. Apis mellifera and A. dorsata were also observed on both male and female inflorescences, though their activity was generally limited to the morning and midday periods. All species (E. kamerunicus, Elaeidobius spp., A. mellifera, and A. dorsata) are potential pollinators, as their visitation of both male and female inflorescences facilitates pollen transfer to the female flowers. Considering the continuous activity of E. kamerunicus and Elaeidobius spp. throughout the day, the use of contact insecticides in oil palm plantations should be avoided to reduce adverse impacts on pollinator populations. These findings provide baseline data for designing pollinator-friendly management practices in Indonesia's oil palm sector.
