Abstract

Abstract. Arfiati D, Zakiyah U, Anitasari S, Inayah ZN, Pratiwi RK. 2023. Community structure of periphyton on bamboo substrate in whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei Boone, 1931) pond with semi-biofloc system. Biodiversitas 24: 5080-5087. Periphyton is one aquatic organism that attaches to the substrate and can be used as a bioindicator. This study analyzes the community structure and dynamics of periphyton on bamboo substrates in whiteleg shrimp ponds with a semi-biofloc system. The study was conducted from May to July 2022. The bamboo substrate was placed in the ponds, and the samples were taken every seven days to 8 weeks. Identification and calculation of periphyton using Lackey Drop Micro transect Counting Method. The periphyton was found on a bamboo substrate in whiteleg shrimp ponds with a semi-biofloc system consisting of phyto-periphyton and zoo-periphyton. The phyto-periphyton group contains 4 phylum, 21 species, including the Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta, and Ocrophyta. The zoo-periphyton group has 4 phylum, 10 species consisting of Arthropoda, Ciliophora, Nematoda, and Rotifera. The abundance of periphyton found changes every week. The relative abundance of phyto-periphyton includes phylum Bacillariophyta (17-69%), Chlorophyta (1-22%), Cyanophyta (30-65%), and Ocrophyta (0-25%), while zoo-periphyton includes phylum Arthropoda (0-3%), Ciliophora (69-99%), Nematodes (0-2%) and Rotifers (0-28%). The total abundance of phyto-periphyton on bamboo substrate ranged from 223,806-989,398 cells/L, while zoo-periphyton ranged from 396-1,924 individual/L. The diversity, uniformity, and dominance index of phyto-periphyton and zoo-periphyton are moderate. Water quality parameters during the study were relatively good for aquatic organism growth, except for very high total organic matter levels in several weeks.

Abstract

Abstract. Anitasari S, Arfiati D, Susilo, Marhendra APW. 2024. Morphological characteristics of sex dimorphism in Gobiopterus sp. (Gobiiformes: Oxudercidae) from Ranu Grati Lake, Pasuruan District, East Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 25: 1214-1222. Ranu Grati is a volcanic lake located in Pasuruan, East Java, Indonesia which has high ecological value as a habitat for a unique endemic fish found only in this lake, namely the Lempuk fish (Gobiopterus sp.). The aim of this research is to determine the morphological characters based on sexual dimorphism of Lempuk fish. in Ranu Grati Lake. The result showed the body color of male and female Lempuk fish is transparent. Lempuk fish do not have sexual dichromatism or their sex cannot be distinguished based on their body color. Lempuk fish have vomer teeth and canine teeth. Types of male and female ctenoid scales have a comb-like shape. The position of the mouth of the Lempuk Fish is located near the top or head of the fish but not precisely at the tip. There are variations in the superior subterminal mouth type between male and female fish, especially in terms of anatomical details and mouth structure. Based on meristic observations of the Lempuk fish, it can be explained that this fish has a fusiform body shape, this shows that gobies generally have a small fusiform body and also has pectoral fins, pelvic fins, dorsal fins, tail fins and anal fins. In this study, we found from histological observations of the Lempuk fish, mature oocytes and spermatids were found in one histological tissue sample at male fish with gonad maturity level II. This change from female to male occurs at the size of the fish with fish size of 21.21-30.58 ± 2.14mm. It indicates that is Lempuk fish is a species hermaphrodite protogyn.

Abstract

Abstract. Arfiati D, Zakiyah U, Anitasari S, Inayah ZN, Orchida K, Pratiwi RK. 2024. Plankton diversity in the Rowo Klampok Swamp, Malang District, East Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 25: 1846-1855. Wetlands are a productive ecosystem and have high biodiversity, including plankton. Plankton can be used to assess the health status of wetlands. This research aims to determine the diversity and abundance of phytoplankton and zooplankton and to analyze the water quality conditions of the tropical wetland (Rowo Klampok Swamp, Malang District, East Java, Indonesia). This research was conducted from May to June 2023 and it's a survey research. The research results show that the phytoplankton found in Rowo Klampok Swamp consists of 4 divisions with 13 genera, while there are 3 divisions with 3 genera in zooplankton. Phytoplankton divisions are Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta, and Dinoflagellate, while zooplankton divisions are Arthropoda, Ciliophora, and Rotifera. The average value of total phytoplankton abundance reached 2,618,684 cells/L, while zooplankton was 10,504 Ind/L. The Chlorophyta division is the most commonly found phytoplankton, with a percentage ranging between 32.5 and 53.1%, respectively. Dictyosphaerium is a phytoplankton genus often found with the highest average abundance of 1,922,929 cells/L. The diversity index, uniformity index, and dominance index of phytoplankton ranged between 1.965-2.439, 0.945-1.173, and 0.125-0.213, respectively, while those of zooplankton were 0.496-0.529, 0.317-0.593 and 0.458-0.684, respectively. Rowo Klampok Swamp has a medium trophic level (mesotrophic) and shows moderate pollution. The water quality conditions are considered suitable for aquatic organisms, but we need to monitor and reduce phosphorus input into the bodies of water.

Abstract

Abstract. Anitasari S, Arfiati D, Susilo, Marhendra APW. 2024. Feeding habits of Gobiopterus brachypterus (Gobiiformes: Oxudercidae) in Ranu Grati Lake, East Java, Indonesia and their relationship with food availability. Biodiversitas 25: 2925-2936. Ranu Grati, a volcanic lake located in Pasuruan District, East Java, Indonesia, is home to the endemic Gobiopterus brachypterus (Bleeker 1855) locally known as the lempuk fish. This research aims to elucidate the feeding habits of G. brachypterus and their relationship with food availability in Ranu Grati. The study investigates the food ecology of including their diet composition, habitat preferences, and feeding habits in relation to natural food availability including plankton abundance, relative abundance, uniformity index, dominance index plankton sampling was conducted at five stations by with the samples preserved in formalin and concentrated in the lab for analysis under a microscope. Fish were also collected at these stations using random sampling, dissected in the field, and their digestive tracts were preserved and later examined microscopically to identify the food types down to the lowest taxonomic level. The results reveal that the phytoplankton community in Ranu Grati Lake includes nine classes: Bacillariophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Coscinodiscophyceae, Trebouxiophyceae, Dinophyceae, Zygnematophyceae, Raphidophyceae, and Euglenoidea. The zooplankton community comprises four classes: Monogononta, Copepoda, Branchiopoda, and Tubulinea. Phytoplankton in Ranu Grati Lake exhibit high diversity, with a diversity index of 3.739, and high uniformity, indicated by an evenness index of 0.957, showing no dominance (dominance index: 0.115). In contrast, zooplankton demonstrate moderate diversity (diversity index: 2.528), moderate evenness (evenness index: 0.647), and similarly show no dominance (dominance index: 0.216). The relative lengths of the intestines of G. brachypterus. are 0.163 and 0.132, indicating a carnivorous diet. The index of preponderance values highlights that Bacillaria sp., Oscillatoria sp., Microcystis sp., Oocystis sp., and Volvox sp. are significant dietary components for G. brachypterus, whereas Pinnularia sp., Entomoneis sp., Cymbella sp., Thalassiosira sp. and others contribute minimally or are absent. This highlights the dietary preferences of G. brachypterus. The stomach contents confirm that G. brachypterus exhibit a preference for phytoplankton, demonstrating opportunistic, carnivorous feeding behavior based on the availability of food in their natural environment.
