Abstract

Sematang Borang Street is a city road frequently used by Palembang residents to reach their homes. Over time, the number of residents in various housing complexes and settlements continues to increase. The flow of vehicles passing through Sematang Borang Street also increases. This increase has the potential to cause transportation problems, such as congestion, decreased road performance, and reduced road user comfort. Therefore, this researcher conducted an analysis to determine the relationship between traffic flow characteristics, such as volume, speed, and capacity, on Sematang Borang Street, in order to address potential future problems. In this study, the author addresses the analysis of traffic characteristics on Sematang Borang Street in Palembang City. The survey was conducted on a weekday using a one-day enumeration method, including vehicle volume and speed surveys. The calculation and analysis revealed a traffic volume of 1,678.7 passenger car units/hour, with a capacity of 1,414.96 passenger car units/hour. The current value of free flow speed is 32.825 km/hour.

Abstract

Traffic congestion is a common problem in big cities, including on Jalan Kolonel H. Burlian Palembang. This study aims to determine the relationship between speed, density, and traffic volume and utilize Google Traffic technology in speed data collection. The research method used is a quantitative approach with primary data collection through field surveys and secondary data from data retrieved using the Application Programming Interface (API) from the Google Traffic server. The results of the study indicate that the comparison of vehicle speeds between the field survey and the Google Traffic approach does not show a significant difference. The T-test results obtained a p-value (two tail) of 0.999998532 ( > 0.05). Modeling with Greenshield theory produces a valid linear relationship between these variables, with an error value (RMS error) that is still within reasonable limits. This study shows that Google Traffic can be used as an alternative measurement in traffic analysis under certain conditions.

Abstract

Roads are a crucial element in land transportation infrastructure that require special management, particularly at intersections between two or more road sections. Urban development in Palembang City has led to a significant increase in population mobility and vehicle volume, particularly in areas with growing residential and commercial activity. This issue is crucial for further study, given their function as connecting routes between densely populated residential areas and community activity centers. Considering these conditions, the author was motivated to conduct a study entitled "Analysis of Unsignalized Road Intersections (Case Study of the Sematang Borang and Siaran Road Intersections, Palembang City"). This study aims to obtain data on traffic flow, intersection capacity, degree of saturation, vehicle delays, and the probability of queuing using the PKJI (Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines 2023) calculation analysis. From the results of this study, it shows that at the three-way intersection without Sematang Borang road signal – Siaran road, the highest vehicle volume occurs in the afternoon (17.00-18.00 WIB), amounting to q = 4659 SMP / hour, the intersection capacity value is C = 2801.80 SMP / hour, the delay value T = - 12.678 seconds / Vehicle, and the queue opportunity value Pa = 120.217%. Judging from the saturation degree value that exceeds the intersection plan performance value of 0.85, it shows that the intersection performance condition is almost saturated or congested, to the point of experiencing delays and vehicle queues.

Abstract

Traffic congestion is one of the common problems in big cities such as Palembang, particularly at U-turn locations which are prone to bottlenecks. This study aims to validate the congestion length and duration data obtained from Google Traffic with direct field survey observations at the U-turn on Jl. Kol. H. Burlian, Palembang. The research method involved primary data collection through field surveys using a Garmin GPS to record congestion length and a Speed Gun to measure vehicle speed. Secondary data were obtained from Google Traffic, processed through Google Sheets and the Google Distance Matrix API. The results showed that Google Traffic data can generally illustrate the congestion patterns, both in terms of queue length and congestion duration. A paired t-test comparison between Google Traffic data and field survey data indicated no significant difference. Therefore, Google Traffic can be utilized as supporting data in congestion mapping, although field validation is still required for more accurate results.
