Abstract

Technology of leather tannery is influenced by laws and developments in technology, both domestically and internationally. Current research has a major focus on discovering new process technologies and materials that make the leather processing technology more optimal and environmentally friendly. Currently, most of the leather tanning processes in Indonesia still have normative stages, which consist of beam house operation, tanning, post-tanning (neutralization, retanning, dyeing, fatliquoring) and finishing stages. The purpose of this study is to alter the post-tanning procedure for upper shoes by using aromatic sulfones. By using aromatic sulfones, leather can be tanned without the requirement for neutralization. The results of this study are expected to educate tanneries and give them another choice for performing tanning techniques that are more efficient, more reasonably priced, and meet standards for the quality of finished leather. With the addition of aromatic sulfones, wet blue goat skin post-tanning can be finished in 225 minutes (3 hours 45 minutes), or roughly 21.43% of the typical processing time. This process modification can both speed up the tanning process and consume less water because no fresh water is needed during the post-tanning phase. Water savings in the post-tanning process can reach 400% of the total water used. With these advantages, it is believed that the tanning process for leather would become more effective and affordable. Furthermore, by using less water during the post-tanning process, liquid waste can also be decreased. In terms of organoleptics and mechanics, the rubbing resistance of post-tanning leather with with the addition of aromatic sulfones meets the requirements/standards for upper shoes.

Abstract

Finished skin for a long time will accumulate, overgrown mold, unpleasant odor, folds occur, uneven color and potentially damaged skin. This study aims to increase the optimality use of cowhide upper shoe articles of old stock cattle by refinishing techniques. The advantage of refinishing is the shorter process time than reprocessing, wet processing and continues refinishing. The stages are sorting, grading, preliminary test, refinishing treatment and final testing. Materials used are three pieces of leather that consist fullgrain nappa, softy mill nappa and correctedgrain. Nappa softy mill skin requires mechanical toggling treatment because there are fold defects. Fullgrain and correctedgrain nappa leathers are immediately refinished. The analysis was organoleptical and physical analysis. Physical tests involve tensile strength, elongation, tear resistance, wet and dry rubbing resistance [4]. The results of physical tests of tear strength, elongation and tensile strength show that refinishing does not change much about the character of leather. The results of physical tests of tear strength, elongation and tensile strength showed that refinishing doesn’t change the character of leather. The refinishing process successfully increases the rubbing resistance of both dry and wet paints and organoleptically improves the quality of leather.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to utilize solid waste from wastewater treatment sludge for red chili fertilizer by finding the proportion/ratio of solid waste components with soil to obtain the most optimal composition. The materials used are solid waste sediment leather tannery, soil, chili seedlings, pesticides, and water. The tools used are plant pots (pots made of clay with a diameter of ± 25 cm and a height of ± 20 cm). The method used was planting red chili seeds on 6 types of planting media, namely control pots, 1,2,3,4,5 pot which were sequentially controlled (without solid waste), and the ratio of solid waste: soil with a ratio of 1:2, 1: 3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:6. The results of the data obtained were analyzed using a T test and completely random design. furthermore, duncan test was conducted to determine the best dose (ratio) for chili plants if previously (in the unidirectional variance test) there was a ratio effect. The results obtained were pots 1, 2, 4 had a higher plant height than the control. Pots 1,2,3,4 had more leaves than the control. The conclusion that can be obtained is that the solid waste sediment on chili planting media affects height increase, number of chili leaves, and quantitatively not all of them have a significant effect. Giving solid waste sediments with a ratio of 1: 3 showed the fastest increase in height and number of leaves.

Abstract

Upper leathers have many types of leather articles likes nappa leather upper, sports shoe upper, suede upper leather and others. Suede upper leather is upper leather that has own charm because have more fashionable nap. Making suede leather more difficult because the raw materials used in this process is the upper suede leather raw material that does not pass because the color does not meet customer desires (leather from industrial leather stock). The basic color of suede skin is absolute produced through Post Tanning process. Beside the color, a feeling touch is also expected in upper suede leather. Suede skin repair process done in two ways: wet process (Post Tanning) and spray finish method. Spray finish method can save cost and time in repairing suede leather. The process of color and quality improvement is done with the finishing process so as to get suede leather in accordance with the wishes. The chemicals used in this process are: Water, metal complex dyestuff, 1441 UR, Amollan IP and Rosilk TM 2000. Suede skin repair process using spray finish method. The upper suede leathers are tested by organoleptic test. The results of this study obtained leather upper suede leathers have met the standards.
