Abstract

The Postgraduate Program of Universitas Bandar Lampung is one of the higher education institutions in Lampung, located in Bandar Lampung City, currently hosting four study programs. The interaction among students, staff, and lecturers generates a considerable volume of traffic movement that may cause congestion, so the provision of traffic-control facilities such as circulation and parking systems is essential. This study is limited to the analysis of parking demand and, more specifically, to the analysis of parking capacity improvement based on the calculation of parked-vehicle volume in the study area, using the indicators of parking duration, parking pattern, and parking capacity. Based on the data collection and analysis, the Postgraduate Campus of Universitas Bandar Lampung has a parking area of 9,566 m², with a total of 435 parking spaces (SRP) for passenger cars and 131 SRP for motorcycles. During lectures, parking demand reaches 166 cars and 218 motorcycles, while during graduation/wedding-reception events it reaches 531 cars and 202 motorcycles. The parking index is 0.96 for motorcycles and 0.67 for cars during lectures (indicating no problem), whereas during events it is 0.92 for motorcycles and 1.05 for cars, meaning the passenger-car parking facility is problematic because the index exceeds one.

Abstract

Crossroads are places where traffic conflicts occur. The traffic volume that can be accommodated by the road network is determined by the intersection capacity of the road network. The performance of an intersection is the main factor in determining the most appropriate handling to optimize the intersection function. With the declining performance of intersections, it will cause losses to road users due to a decrease in speed, an increase in delay, and a queue of vehicles, resulting in an increase in vehicle operating costs and a decrease in environmental quality. Interference with traffic flow will cause prolonged congestion, especially if there are no effective arrangements such as traffic lights, for example at intersections that have heavy traffic flows, particularly at peak hours in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Given these intersection conditions, which support the occurrence of traffic congestion and accidents because the area is a road leading to the National road with increasing traffic, the researcher aims to examine the unsignalized intersection performance and the potential relationship of the traffic movement capacity on the minor road entering the intersection against the volume of traffic conflicts, under the title "Three-Arm Unsignalized Intersection in Negeri Sakti District, Kurungan Nyawa Village, Pesawaran Regency (Intersection of Jl. Ganjaran – Jl. Raden Gunawan – Jl. Terusan Teuku Imam Bonjol)". The Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI 1997) states that the measures of traffic performance include capacity (C), degree of saturation (DS), delay (D), and queue probability (QP%).

Abstract

Lampung is the southernmost province on the island of Sumatra and serves as the gateway to land and sea transportation from Sumatra to Java. Its provincial capital, Bandar Lampung, as the center of the city is not free from congestion problems. Ryacudu Road is one of the densest roads in Bandar Lampung City, particularly in the Sukarame sub-district connecting the Way Halim Fly Over and the Ryacudu Canal Road. Points of congestion occur along this road, namely illegal parking on the right and left sides of the road caused by side friction. As side friction increases, this study aims to examine how much side friction influences the traffic volume on Ryacudu Road, under the title "The Effect of Side Obstacles on Traffic Volume Using Multiple Linear Regression (Case Study: Ryacudu Road Section, Bandar Lampung City)". Field observations were carried out for two days, one holiday and one busy day (Monday 13 May 2019 and Saturday 18 May 2019), during peak hours 06.00 - 18.00 WIB. The data were analyzed using MKJI 1997 and Microsoft Excel. The results show that the highest traffic volume was 544.6 pcu/hour at 12.00-13.00 WIB on Saturday 18 May 2019, while the highest side friction was 224 pcu/hour at 14.00-15.00 WIB on Monday 13 May 2019, of the vehicle entering/exiting type, classified as high (H). From the regression modeling, a positive model was obtained on Saturday, with the highest value on the regression equation between entering/exiting vehicles and slow vehicles against traffic volume, namely 62.8%.
