Abstract

The Indonesian Children's Habits Programme (KAIH) is one of the government's efforts to shape positive character and habits in early childhood, including building an interest in reading. This community service activity aims to increase knowledge and interest in reading among kindergarten students through educational videos. The activity was carried out at Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Bolihuangga Kindergarten in Gorontalo Regency on 14 October 2025 with 17 students participating. The stages of the activity included preparation, screening of educational videos, interactive discussions, and evaluation. The evaluation results showed an increase in knowledge related to reading skills from 29.41% to 70.59%, as well as an increase in knowledge about the benefits of reading from 41.18% to 88.24%. These findings indicate that the use of educational videos is effective in increasing students' understanding and interest in reading activities. Thus, audio-visual media-based learning strategies can be a relevant alternative for fostering a culture of reading from an early age. Keywords: Indonesian Children's Habits Programme (KAIH), early childhood, educational videos, interest in reading, early literacy, kindergarten.

Abstract

The elderly are the most vulnerable group to degenerative diseases due to the ageing process, which causes a decline in the body's physiological functions. Degenerative diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and metabolic disorders are commonly found in the elderly and have an impact on their quality of life and increase their need for health services. Free health check-ups and medical treatment were conducted in South Heledulaa Subdistrict, targeting 29 elderly people, with the aim of early detection of risk factors for degenerative diseases and providing health education. The check-ups included measurements of blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid. The results showed that 62.06% of the elderly had degenerative diseases, consisting of 34.48% with hypertension and 27.58% with diabetes mellitus. Additionally, high uric acid levels were detected in 15 people, high cholesterol in 14  people, and high blood sugar in 10  people. These findings illustrate the high risk and burden of degenerative diseases in the elderly. Educational activities and routine check-ups have proven to be important in raising awareness, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and facilitating the continuous monitoring of the health conditions of the elderly. Keywords: elderly, degenerative diseases, health check-ups, early detection

Abstract

Scoliosis remains a major musculoskeletal health problem among children and adolescents, particularly during periods of rapid growth. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a school-based scoliosis screening and health education program conducted at State Elementary School 03 Tilongkabila, Bone Bolango Regency. The program involved health education sessions and scoliosis screening using the Adam’s Forward Bend Test among students in grades 4–6 aged 10–12 years, with a total of 50 participants. The results showed that 3 students (6%) were identified with scoliosis and 5 students (10%) were classified as suspected scoliosis cases. Evaluation using pre-test and post-test questionnaires demonstrated a 45% increase in students’ knowledge after the health education intervention. These findings indicate that combining health education with early screening is effective in improving awareness and facilitating early detection of scoliosis among school-aged children. In conclusion, school-based scoliosis screening integrated with health education is an effective preventive strategy to promote early diagnosis, increase health awareness, and support timely intervention, thereby reducing the risk of scoliosis progression in children.
