Abstract

Adolescents are vulnerable to various forms of risky behavior, including sexual risk behaviour, which may adversely affect their physical health, psychological well-being, and social functioning. Self-control constitutes an essential internal factor in preventing such behaviors. This study aims to examine the role of basic guidance services in assisting adolescents to control sexual risk behavior. The study employed a qualitative approach through the analysis of various relevant literature sources. The findings indicate that self-control is negatively correlated with sexual risk behavior, suggesting that higher levels of self-control are associated with a lower likelihood of engaging in such behavior. Furthermore, external factors, including peer influence, parent–adolescent communication, and media exposure, were found to significantly influence adolescent behavior. Basic guidance services in schools have demonstrated a strategic role in enhancing students’ self-control through the provision of understanding, emotional regulation skills, and appropriate decision-making abilities. Therefore, basic guidance services may serve as an effective preventive intervention in reducing sexual risk behavior among adolescents.
