Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of picture storybooks in improving elementary school students' reading comprehension skills through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) protocol. The research method used was qualitative with a systematic literature review design. Data were collected from three databases: Scopus, Garuda and Google Scholar, resulting in an initial selection of 40 articles. After screening and assessing eligibility based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 articles were selected for the final review. The results indicate that picture storybooks have a significant positive impact on students text comprehension, vocabulary mastery, reading motivation, and language development. The use of picture storybooks with interactive, culturally relevant, and narrative-contextual strategies has consistently demonstrated effectiveness across various elementary school contexts.
