The rapid advancement of digital technology has led to a significant increase in gadget use among adolescents. This situation has resulted in various negative impacts, one of which is gadget addiction that can affect academic, social, and psychological aspects of teenagers. This literature review aims to examine the relationship between self-control and gadget addiction among adolescents in the digital era. Data sources were obtained from several scientific databases such as Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and nationally accredited journals using relevant keywords. A total of 60 articles were found, which were then filtered according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in 15 articles analyzed descriptively and narratively. The findings show that most studies indicate a significant negative relationship between self-control and gadget addiction in adolescents. Teenagers with high self-control tend to manage gadget use more wisely and proportionally, while those with low self-control are more susceptible to addictive behavior toward gadgets. Besides internal factors like self-control, gadget addiction is also influenced by external factors such as parenting styles, social environment, peer pressure, and alternative activities available to adolescents. Various interventions, including self-control techniques, counseling services, mindfulness, bibliotherapy, and democratic parenting, have proven effective in reducing gadget addiction levels. Therefore, strengthening self-control and providing support from families and schools are crucial steps in preventing and addressing gadget addiction among adolescents in the digital era.
