Abstract

This study examines the Manggarai traditional house as a cultural text through the hermeneutic perspective of Hans-Georg Gadamer. The research focuses on the symbolic meanings of ngaong, lutur, and buffalo horns and their implications for cultural and multicultural education. This study employs a qualitative method with a philosophical hermeneutic approach through library research. The analysis applies the concepts of effective historical consciousness and fusion of horizons. The findings reveal that ngaong symbolizes human limitation and social responsibility; lutur represents dialogue, openness, and collective solidarity; while buffalo horns symbolize moral courage and ethical leadership. These symbols construct local cultural values relevant to strengthening historical awareness, moral character, and social dialogue among younger generations amid modernity.
