Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of youth in the democratic process in Indonesia. Youth hold a strategic position as the future generation of the nation as well as agents of change who can influence the development of democracy. However, in practice, youth political participation still faces various challenges such as low political literacy, apathetic attitudes toward politics, and the negative impact of social media, particularly the spread of inaccurate information.This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method. The data were collected from various secondary sources, including books, scientific journals, and articles relevant to the research topic. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis by examining, classifying, and interpreting information obtained from the selected sources. The results show that youth play various roles in democracy, such as participating in general elections, engaging in organizations, utilizing social media as a digital democratic space, and acting as agents of social change. However, the optimization of these roles is still hindered by both internal and external factors. Therefore, improvements in political education, digital literacy, and broader participation spaces are needed so that youth can actively contribute to strengthening democracy in Indonesia.
