<![CDATA[This study is a quasi-experimental research aimed at: (1) describing the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in developing the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of fifth-grade elementary school students; (2) describing the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of students before and after the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in fifth grade elementary school; and (3) determining the effect of the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of fifth-grade elementary school students. The research employed a Pre-Experimental Design in the form of a One Group Pretest and Posttest Design. The population of this study consisted of all fifth-grade students of SDN 99 Lappacinrana. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling, with a total sample of 24 students. The data collection techniques used were observation, tests, and documentation, while the research instruments consisted of observation sheets and tests. The data collected from the pretest, treatment, and posttest were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics with the assistance of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 25. The results of the prerequisite test analysis showed that the students’ Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) data were not normally distributed; therefore, a non-parametric test using the Wilcoxon test was conducted. The significance value of the Wilcoxon test showed an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000, which was smaller than 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model had a significant effect on the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of fifth-grade elementary school students.]]>
