Abstract

The Community Service Learning (KKN) Program 84A in Mata Merah, Sei Selincah, Palembang combines art, environmental education, and religious values to build character among elementary school students. The goal of this activity is to enhance children’s creativity, environmental awareness, and faith through the use of experiential learning approaches. The data used for the descriptive qualitative method included documentation of activities over a one-month period, participant observation, and daily logbooks. Elementary school-aged children (grades 1–6) living near the non-formal education center (KKN) served as the subjects of the activity. These KKN activities included teaching Quranic reading and writing, memorizing short prayers and several surahs, creating crafts from recyclable materials such as cardboard, beverage bottles, used plastic, and straws, and providing assistance and guidance to parents. The results of the activities show that participants are more interested in learning, more creative in waste management, more confident in public speaking, and have a better understanding of religious and environmental responsibilities. Incorporating art, environmental education, and religious principles into non-formal educational activities has proven to help build children’s character, fostering creativity, environmental awareness, and faith.
