Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to improve the fine motor skills of early childhood learners through finger painting activities at TK Jihad Ampang Gadang I Maek, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) model developed by Kemmis and McTaggart, consisting of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research was conducted in two cycles involving 15 children in Group B as participants. Data were collected through observation, documentation, field notes, and children's developmental assessment sheets. The data were analyzed using both quantitative descriptive and qualitative descriptive methods. The findings indicated that finger painting activities effectively improved children's fine motor skills. In the initial condition, only 38% of the children achieved the categories of Developing as Expected (BSH) and Developing Very Well (BSB). After the implementation of Cycle I, the percentage increased to 60%, and further improved to 86% in Cycle II. The improvement was evident in children's eye-hand coordination, finger flexibility, ability to create simple patterns, and skill in using both hands independently to complete artwork. Therefore, finger painting activities are effective in enhancing the fine motor skills of early childhood learners.
