Abstract

This study aims to analyze the intellectual development and creativity of third-grade students (Class III B) at SD Negeri 17 Koto Baru through quiz activities, number boom games, and "what am I" role-play games. This research applied a descriptive qualitative approach with direct observation conducted on November 24, 2025, involving 17 students present out of 20 enrolled in Class III B. Data were collected through checklist observation sheets, student questionnaires, teacher interviews, and activity documentation. The results indicate that students' intellectual development is fairly good, characterized by logical thinking, understanding of instructions, following number patterns, and completing concrete tasks. However, students' creativity still needs improvement, as most students were reluctant to express their own ideas and tended to imitate peers. Factors such as self-confidence, learning motivation, a supportive learning environment, and game-based learning methods significantly influence both aspects of development. These findings are consistent with Jean Piaget's cognitive development theory at the concrete operational stage (ages 7–11 years), which emphasizes that children learn most effectively through real activities and direct exploration. This study recommends the implementation of active, varied, and game-based learning methods to optimize the intellectual development and creativity of elementary school students.
