Abstract

This study aims to describe the transformation of the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al Khoirot Darussalam, South Pontianak. The rapid development of AI technology has brought significant changes to the educational landscape, including the teaching and learning process of Islamic Religious Education. This condition requires teachers to adapt to technological advancements while maintaining the fundamental objectives of Islamic education, namely the development of students' character and noble morals (akhlaqul karimah). This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design. The research participants consisted of the madrasa principal, Islamic Religious Education teachers, and students. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and SaldaƱa model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The trustworthiness of the data was ensured through source triangulation and method triangulation. The findings reveal that the transformation of the role of Islamic Religious Education teachers in the era of Artificial Intelligence encompasses their functions as learning facilitators, moral and spiritual mentors, guides in the responsible use of technology, and agents of character development. Teachers no longer serve solely as the primary source of information; instead, they act as facilitators who assist students in accessing, analyzing, and utilizing information critically and responsibly. The challenges identified include students' increasing dependence on technology, the potential misuse of AI in academic activities, and the growing demand for teachers to enhance their digital competencies. Therefore, strengthening digital literacy and integrating Islamic values into the utilization of technology are essential to fostering innovative, humanistic, and character-oriented learning environments that support the development of students with strong moral values.
