Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning motivation and learning outcomes of students in Social Studies (IPS) in Grade V at SDN No. 55/VII Batin Pengambang. This condition was caused by teacher-centered learning and the lack of connection between learning materials and the surrounding environment. This study aimed to improve students’ learning motivation and learning outcomes through the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model based on the surrounding environment. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles with 20 fifth-grade students as the subjects. Data collection techniques included observation, tests, and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The results of the study show that the application of the CTL model based on the surrounding environment can improve students’ learning motivation and learning outcomes in Social Studies. Students became more active, enthusiastic, and better able to understand the material because the learning was connected to real-life situations.
