Abstract

Amid the advancement of the digital era and educational modernization, traditional pesantren learning methods, namely sorogan and bandongan, face challenges regarding efficiency and contemporary relevance. This study aims to examine the implementation, effectiveness, transformation, and adaptation of these two methods within the tradition of Islamic studies in Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative approach using library research. Data were collected through documentation studies and analyzed using content analysis and descriptive analysis. The findings reveal that the implementation of sorogan and bandongan encompasses the processes of talaqqi and the preservation of scholarly transmission (sanad). Both methods have proven effective in fostering deep religious understanding, intellectual independence, moral character, and the academic culture of students. In the modern era, these methods have undergone transformation through virtual learning, online sorogan, and the utilization of digital Islamic texts (e-kitab). The study concludes that traditional pesantren values can be sustained through a 21st-century hybrid learning model integrating classical pesantren methods with modern educational technology.
