Abstract

This study was motivated by the problem that there were still children experiencing difficulties in early reading literacy at State Kindergarten 01 Sangir. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of augmented reality media on the early reading literacy skills of children aged 5–6 years at State Kindergarten 01 Sangir. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study consisted of all students of State Kindergarten 01 Sangir, totaling 131 children. The sample included Class B2 and Class B5, with 14 children in each class. Oral tests were used as the data collection method. Data were analyzed using a t-test, preceded by prerequisite tests, namely the normality test and homogeneity test. The data were processed using SPSS 25 for Windows. The data analysis showed that the mean pre-test score of the experimental group was 9.928, while the mean post-test score was 12.857. The mean pre-test score of the control group was 9.357, and the mean post-test score was 12.357. The final data set was homogeneous and normally distributed. Based on the hypothesis testing results, the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) was reported as 0.772 < 0.05. Therefore, it was concluded that augmented reality media had an effect on the early reading literacy skills of children at State Kindergarten 01 Sangir.
