Abstract

The rapid growth of digital media has transformed the circulation of religious knowledge, including hadith, in contemporary Muslim societies. Social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, and YouTube have made hadith content highly accessible, but they also have increased the circulation of unauthenticated or weak hadiths. This article examines the urgency of takhrij al-hadith as a verification method to validate hadiths circulating on social media in the digital era. The study uses a qualitative library research approach by examining classical and contemporary books on hadith methodology, as well as scholarly articles on digital hadith studies and social media ethics. The findings indicate that takhrij al-hadith is essential for identifying original sources, tracing transmission chains, assessing sanad and matn quality, and preventing the dissemination of weak or fabricated hadiths. In the digital context, takhrij functions not only as a scholarly method but also as a practical instrument for tabayyun and religious literacy. This article concludes that takhrij al-hadith is a crucial tool for preserving the authenticity of Islamic teachings in the age of social media
