Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the traditional Gobak Sodor game on improving gross motor skills, particularly speed and agility, among fourth-grade students at State Elementary School 3 Adiluwih. The research employed a quasi-experimental method using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 25 students. The instruments used were a speed test (30-meter sprint) and an agility test (T-test). Data were analyzed using the paired sample t-test and MANOVA. The results showed that: (1) there was a significant effect of the traditional Gobak Sodor game on gross motor speed, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05; (2) there was a significant effect of the traditional Gobak Sodor game on gross motor agility, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05; and (3) there was a significant effect of the traditional Gobak Sodor game on both speed and agility of gross motor skills, with a significance value of 0.016 < 0.05. The traditional Gobak Sodor game encourages students to move quickly, change direction suddenly, and adjust their steps rapidly, thereby directly training speed and agility as components of gross motor skills. Therefore, it can be concluded that the traditional Gobak Sodor game has a positive effect on improving gross motor skills, particularly students’ speed and agility.
