Abstract

Long division is one of the essential mathematics topics that elementary school students need to master because it serves as a foundation for learning mathematical concepts at higher levels. However, various errors are still found in students' work when solving long division problems. This study aimed to describe and identify the types of errors made by third-grade students of SD Negeri Pertiwi Lamgarot, Aceh Besar Regency, in solving long division problems. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research subjects consisted of 20 third-grade students. Data were collected through a written test consisting of 15 essay questions in the form of word problems on long division. Data were analyzed using Newman's Error Analysis, which includes reading errors, comprehension errors, transformation errors, process skill errors, and encoding errors. The results showed that students still made various errors in solving long division problems. Comprehension errors were made by 12 students (60%), transformation errors by 14 students (70%), process skill errors by 20 students (100%), and encoding errors by 19 students (95%), while no reading errors were found. The most dominant error was the process skill error. Therefore, it can be concluded that students still experienced difficulties in carrying out long division procedures accurately.
