Abstract

This research purposes to examine trade cooperation between Indonesia and China from a global geopolitical perspective. A qualitative-descriptive approach to library research is employed, and secondary data from trade figures, policy documents, and scientific journals are examined. This study addresses three research questions: (1) how has Indonesia-China trade cooperation developed; (2) what factors influence this cooperation from a global geopolitical perspective; and (3) how does this cooperation affect Indonesia's strategic position. The findings reveal that bilateral trade reached a total value of US$135.17 billion in 2024. This cooperation is driven by four main factors: complementarity of natural resources and industrial needs, multilateral frameworks of ACFTA and RCEP, geopolitical interests in the context of US-China competition in the Indo-Pacific, and historical and cultural proximity. Although this strengthens Indonesia's position as a pivot state in the region, it also presents challenges including a trade deficit of US$10.3 billion and structural dependency that must be managed through a more balanced economic diplomacy strategy.
