Abstract

Physical activity is an essential element in building an active and healthy lifestyle among elementary school students, yet the growing tendency toward sedentary behavior caused by technological advancement has become a serious concern. Cycling is one of the simplest, most enjoyable, and most accessible forms of physical activity for children. This study aimed to describe the contribution of cycling habits in supporting an active and healthy lifestyle among students of SD Negeri Matanggorai, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. A quantitative descriptive method was used, involving 30 students who were selected through purposive sampling from a population of 65 students. Data were collected using a four-point Likert-scale questionnaire and the Indonesian Physical Fitness Test (Tes Kebugaran Jasmani Indonesia/TKJI) for the 10-12 year age group, then analyzed descriptively using percentages and mean scores. The results showed that the cycling habit variable obtained a mean score of 3.32, classified as very good, while the active and healthy lifestyle variable obtained a mean score of 3.71, also classified as very good. The physical fitness test results indicated that 93.33% of students were in the good and very good categories, with none classified as poor. These findings indicate that cycling habits contribute meaningfully to supporting an active and healthy lifestyle as well as good physical fitness among elementary school students.
