Abstract

This article aims to analyze the nature and principles of education according to Sayyid Ahmad Khan and Immanuel Kant and to examine their relevance to the educational system in Indonesia. This study employs a literature review method by examining various sources related to the educational thought of these two figures, which are then analyzed through a comparative and critical approach. The findings indicate that Sayyid Ahmad Khan emphasized education as a means of intellectual development grounded in Islamic law (Sharia) and social moral values, while also encouraging openness to scientific and technological advancement. In contrast, Immanuel Kant viewed education as a process of humanizing individuals through the development of reason, experience, and responsible morality. Both perspectives demonstrate significant relevance to the Indonesian educational system, particularly in fostering the holistic development of learners, integrating moral values with rational thinking, and adapting to contemporary societal changes, as reflected in national education policies. Therefore, the ideas of these two thinkers can serve as a philosophical foundation for developing an adaptive, humanistic, and character-oriented educational framework.
