Abstract

The use of social media among adolescents has been increasing and has an impact on their mental health conditions and social development. This study aims to determine the negative effects of excessive social media use on adolescents’ psychological conditions. The method used is a literature review by examining various relevant research sources. The results show that excessive use of social media can lead to increased anxiety, decreased self-confidence, and the emergence of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). In addition, excessive social media use can reduce direct communication skills, increase the risk of cyberbullying, and cause feelings of loneliness among adolescents. These conditions may lead to emotional exhaustion and disrupted social relationships. Therefore, the role of parents and teachers is needed in providing supervision and guidance so that adolescents can use social media wisely.
