Abstract

General Background Vocabulary mastery forms the essential foundation for linguistic comprehension, effective communication, and academic achievement within language education. Specific Background Fifth-grade students with severe hearing impairments at SDN 004 Teluk Pandan currently experience delayed language development and low assessment scores due to conventional, auditory-reliant instruction lacking appropriate visual media. Knowledge Gap While visually supported materials are generally beneficial, the specific integration of structured conceptual exploration frameworks combined with digital verification mechanisms for special needs literacy remains underexplored. Aims This study investigates the application of an illustrated instructional tool based on an active conceptual discovery framework to facilitate language acquisition for a hearing-impaired pupil. Results Utilizing Classroom Action Research across two instructional cycles, the analysis revealed a continuous score progression from a pre-cycle average of 65 to 89 in Cycle II, culminating in 100 percent classical proficiency. Novelty This research distinctly integrates structured visual exploration with QR Code-assisted digital verification to scaffold independent conceptual discovery without relying on auditory input. Implications Deploying highly visual, inquiry-oriented pedagogical materials provides a highly supportive alternative strategy for inclusive education, fostering learner autonomy, active classroom participation, and concrete semantic understanding. Highlights Classroom Action Research spanning two intervention cycles demonstrated a mean score progression from 65 to 89. Visual exploration and QR Code verification mechanisms successfully stimulated active participation within an inclusive educational setting. Tailored pedagogical interventions guided the participant to achieve complete classical proficiency standards. Abstract

General Background Literacy acquisition constitutes an essential foundation for academic success across all educational subjects. Specific Background Fifth-grade learners with hearing impairments frequently struggle to understand narrative texts due to conventional instruction and an absence of visual learning media. Knowledge Gap Although visual graphic organizers and real-life pedagogical approaches have been extensively studied separately, their combined application to accommodate marginalized learners in inclusive classrooms remains severely underexplored. Aims This Classroom Action Research evaluates the implementation of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL)-based visual media to support the narrative text processing of a hearing-impaired fifth-grader alongside their peers. Results Following two instructional cycles, the focal participant's academic score progressed from a 45 baseline to 60 in Cycle I, ultimately achieving 80 in Cycle II, thereby surpassing the minimum mastery criterion. Concurrently, learner engagement escalated as individuals actively constructed visual nodes, identified main ideas, and connected written content to real-life experiences. Novelty This study uniquely integrates a visual graphic organizer with contextual learning principles specifically tailored to address the cognitive and communication characteristics of special educational needs learners within an inclusive setting. Implications Educators must adopt visually rich, contextualized instructional strategies to reduce cognitive load and facilitate meaningful literacy acquisition for individuals facing auditory constraints. Highlights The integration of a visual graphic organizer with real-life connections significantly elevated learner engagement during narrative text lessons. The focal participant's academic score progressed from a failing 45 to an 80, surpassing the minimum mastery threshold. Abstract

General Background Inclusive secondary mathematics education requires adaptive instructional strategies accommodating diverse cognitive profiles. Specific Background Students at risk of slow learning often struggle with abstract concepts like measures of central tendency due to underlying arithmetic deficits in addition and division. Knowledge Gap Traditional instruction predominantly utilizes two-dimensional representations and symbolic calculations, failing to provide the transitional physical manipulatives necessary to reduce cognitive load for borderline learners. Aims This Classroom Action Research investigates the application of an integrated manipulative medium to optimize mode, median, and mean comprehension among eighth-grade students in a disadvantaged region. Results Following two pedagogical cycles, classical learning mastery elevated from 33 percent to 86 percent. Specifically for the twelve borderline participants, average scores progressed from a baseline of 32.50 to 65.83, with classical mastery jumping from zero to 75 percent. Observational data confirmed increased participation across tangible, visual, and symbolic mathematical stages. Novelty This study distinctly integrates physical unit manipulatives into a sequenced visual framework, offering a uniquely structured transition from tangible sorting to symbolic arithmetic specifically tailored for borderline intellectual capacities. Implications Educational practitioners must integrate sequenced manipulative media when introducing complex mathematical procedures to ensure inclusive conceptual development. Highlights Sequenced physical manipulatives significantly elevate mathematical comprehension among marginalized eighth-grade cohorts. Average procedural performance metrics for borderline participants jumped from zero to seventy-five percent after two pedagogical cycles. Structured tangible-to-symbolic transitions effectively reduce cognitive load during addition and division arithmetic tasks.
