Abstract

Nurse performance is a key indicator of hospital service quality. Poor performance can be attributed to an unsupportive work environment and low organizational commitment. This study aimed to examine the relationship between work environment and organizational commitment with nurses’ performance in the inpatient Ward of RSI Siti Rahmah Padang. A quantitative analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted from March to August 2025. The population comprised 80 nurses working in the inpatient ward, with 44 nurses selected as the sample using simple random sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires between June 30 and July 7, 2025. Univariate and bivariate analyses were performed using the Chi-Square test. The findings revealed that 38.6% of respondents had poor nurse performance, 36.4% perceived a poor work environment, and 34.1% had poor organizational commitment. There was a statistically significant relationship between work environment and nurse performance (p< 0.001), and between organizational commitment and nurse performance (p< 0,002). Work environment and organizational commitment are significantly associated with nurse performance. It is recommended that hospital management provide rewards, support continuing education, and foster strong organizational commitment to promote a comfortable and safe working environment.
