Abstract

The mixing process is a critical stage in tablet manufacturing because it affects the homogeneity of the mixture and the final quality of the product. This study aims to determine the effect of varying mixing speed and mixing time on the physical properties of tablets, including hardness, friability, disintegration time, and weight uniformity. Powder formulations were evaluated at several levels of mixing speed and duration to observe the resulting changes in physical characteristics. The results showed that increasing the mixing speed and time can improve the homogeneity of the mixture, resulting in tablets with better hardness and weight uniformity. However, mixing conditions that are too high or too long can potentially cause over-mixing, which has an impact on quality degradation, such as increased friability or changes in disintegration time. Overall, an optimal combination of mixing speed and time is needed to achieve stable tablet quality and meet pharmacopoeial requirements. Abstract

Introduction: This review was conducted through a systematic literature search across electronic databases to identify microencapsulation methods applied in the development of natural-based solid dosage forms. Method: The results indicate that ionotropic gelation, spray drying, and cross-linking methods have been successfully applied to materials such as white turmeric, red melinjo peel, kaffir lime oil, and papaya leaf extract. Result: These methods produced microcapsules with stable physical characteristics, satisfactory encapsulation efficiency, and suitability as raw materials for tablet formulation. Spray drying of roselle extract demonstrated an encapsulation efficiency of 97.73%, whereas several papaya leaf formulations exhibited moisture and air content exceeding optimal limits, indicating the need for process optimization. Conclusion. Microencapsulation proves to be an effective approach for enhancing the stability and quality of natural ingredients, offering substantial potential for the development of more stable, standardized, and applicable solid pharmaceutical dosage forms.
