Abstract

Malaria elimination in Indonesia is contingent upon vector control strategies that require community participation, primarily through the involvement of malaria cadres. However, the cadres' knowledge of vector bionomics—such as breeding sites, biting habits, and resting behavior—is often limited, thereby hindering effective and targeted interventions in the field. The objective of this community outreach program was to enhance the knowledge of malaria cadres regarding vector bionomics at the Harapan Community Health Center. The activity was carried out on 13 malaria cadres at Harapan Health Center using an outreach method (conducted pre-test and post-test) regarding mosquito bionomics, as well as field practice in identifying larvae in their breeding habitats. The evaluation results show a significant increase in the knowledge of the cadres. The category of good knowledge increased from 54% before the intervention to 85% after the intervention. In addition, the cadres also successfully practiced identifying Anopheles mosquito larvae in the environment. This enhancement in knowledge is expected to improve the cadres' role in vector surveillance and the implementation of more targeted control interventions, thereby supporting the acceleration of Indonesia's malaria elimination program.
