Abstract

Limited knowledge of modern cultivation practices and weak institutional management among local cocoa farmers often hinder the optimization of regional economic potential. This study aims to analyze the empowerment process of cocoa farmers in Marpunge Village through technical and institutional training implemented by Kudeungoe Suagata Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that a participatory training approach based on adult education principles successfully enhanced farmers' modern cultivation skills while strengthening organizational governance and improving market access for the Maju Marpunge farmer group. Economically, the intervention significantly increased seasonal land productivity and improved the market value of cocoa products. These findings suggest that a comprehensive capacity-building model, spanning from upstream production to downstream marketing, is effective in promoting local economic self-reliance. However, sustaining these positive outcomes requires long-term strategic partnerships among government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.
