Abstract

This study examined the correlation between students’ scientific literacy and scientific creativity in science learning. A quantitative correlational design was used with 54 ninth-grade students from SMP Negeri 1 Kalisat Jember, selected through purposive sampling. Scientific literacy was measured using a pre-test assessing the ability to explain scientific phenomena, design investigations, and interpret data. Scientific creativity was measured through a questionnaire covering unusual use, real advance, technical production, scientific imagination, problem solving, creative experimentation, and science product. Data were confirmed normal using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, and Pearson correlation analysis was applied. The results showed a strong and significant correlation (r = 0.780, p 0.05), indicating that higher scientific literacy is associated with higher scientific creativity. Students with strong literacy skills were better at analyzing information, designing experiments, and generating creative scientific ideas. The findings suggest that contextual and inquiry-based learning approaches, including Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and STEAM integration, can effectively enhance both scientific literacy and creativity by supporting essential 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving.
