Abstract

Background: Data from Serro Survey about STI and HIV & AIDS in Klaten in 2005 showed, 5 FSWs (8.4%) have syphilis infected from 59 FSWs followed testing and in 2006, 8 FSWs (18%) have syphilis infected and 1 (2.2%) FSW has HIV infection.Method: The aim of this study was to know factors related practicing Street FSWs for protecting STI and HIV & AIDS around Klaten Square and Prambanan Temple, Klaten. This research was an observational study using cross sectional approach. Questionnaire used for data collecting with 44 samples. Data analyses of this study were univariate, bivariate by chi square and multivariate by logistic regression.Result: The result of this research showed there were relation between knowledge about STI and HIV & AIDS (p value = 0.032), perceived susceptibility on infecting STI and HIV & AIDS (p value = 0.001). Some variables not related in this research, there were age, education, marital status, income, working period, perceived severity, perceived benefit, perceived barrier, and cues to action. This research don’t have dominant dependent variable related practicing Street FSWs on protecting STI and HIV & AIDS, but perceived severity was a variable resemble significant (p-value=0.092). Klaten Health Office especially Communicable Disease Control Program suggest to make an advocacy for STI and HIV & AIDS. Increase knowledge about STI and HIV & AIDS and perceived susceptibility, severity, benefits and cost through promotion by Health Officer.Keywords: street female sex workers (FSWs), practicing for protecting STI, HIV and AIDS

Abstract

Background: By the year of 2006, there were 4.171 registered leprosy cases in Central Java, 1.989 of them on going treatment, 163 were children and 241 of people deformed due to leprosy. Lack of knowledge on leprosy cause negative perception toward this disease, so willincrease stigma in the community. This study aims to describe the patients’ perception to leprosy disease.Method: This study was a qualitative case study, involved 8 patients selected from leprosy cases with the criteria of on going treatment in Tugurejo Hospital Semarang. In-depth interview was conducted to obtain details answers from respondents.Result: Respondents perceived that leprosy was an infectious disease and it was possible to be infected to other people easily, especially to those who careless in performing healthy behavior. Most of respondents were lack of knowledge of the disease transmission. They perceived that leprosy is a dangerous disease and lead to death or deformities. Positivebehaviors were depicted as a good self care, regular treatment, and socialization whereas negative behaviors were described as in-complying treatment, being isolated and giving up of hopes. All respondents covering their disease and limit their socialization in order to avoid stigmatization.Keyword : Perception, Stigmatization, Leprosy

Abstract

SUTET built to add aground electrical system, but still a lot of people who have negative perception of its existence and many rejection behaviors committed by people who reside in EHV transmission lines and surrounding areas. The research method used is explorative with quantitative and qualitative approaches. Samples were taken by random sampling study of 60 respondents and 3 District: Pati, Kudus, Jepara. The qualitative data collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions on community leaders of each 12 respondents in each district. The results showed that public attitudes about SUTET and the impact of population health and the environment is relatively still less agree, although when viewed from the knowledge and practice against SUTET pretty good. As for the problems in the implementation of replacement systems SUTET and land-use and compensation that are not clearly lead to negative perceptions and social jealousy in the community.
