Abstract The lack of students’ understanding of waste segregation causes waste to be improperly processed and increases the burden on waste entering the landfill. This study aims to determine the weight and volume of waste generation, waste composition, and the level of waste segregation in primary schools in West Denpasar City. The study was conducted in 55 primary schools in West Denpasar. Two types of data were used: primary data and secondary data. Primary data included waste weight and waste volume, while secondary data were obtained through literature studies and interviews with school representatives regarding the number of school members and waste management systems. The results showed that the total waste generation was 542.48 kg/day with a volume of 11.71 m³/day. The waste composition consisted of leaf waste (35%), plastic waste (25%), paper waste (18%), plastic bottles (12%), cans (9%), and residue (1%). A total of eight schools had not implemented waste management, while the rest had managed waste in collaboration with waste banks. The lowest waste segregation score, 0, was obtained by eight schools, while the highest score, 100, was achieved by three schools. The most frequent score was 81, recorded by 15 schools. The study found that 57% of schools were categorized as very good, 27% as good, and 8% as poor or fair. Schools in the very good and good categories implemented programs such as waste banks, which influenced the level of waste segregation. This indicates that waste segregation in primary schools in West Denpasar is generally considered good.
