Abstract

Early marriage, often triggered by arranged marriages, remains a serious issue in Indonesia, particularly affecting adolescent girls. This phenomenon not only impacts physical health but also causes significant psychological consequences, such as stress, depression, and other disorders due to emotional and social immaturity. This study aims to analyze the psychological impact of early marriage and evaluate the effectiveness of related legal regulations. The research employs a normative juridical approach using a literature review method. The findings indicate that early marriage hinders adolescents’ psychosocial development, increases the risk of domestic conflict and violence, and negatively affects educational and socio-economic conditions. Although Law Number 16 of 2019 sets the minimum marriage age at 19 years, the dispensation mechanism still allows child marriage to occur. Therefore, strengthening regulations, enhancing social interventions, and providing comprehensive psychosocial support are necessary to prevent early marriage and reduce its psychological impacts.
