Abstract

This study examines the effects of financial literacy, financial self-efficacy, and lifestyle on students' financial management behavior in the era of cashless society. Using a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis, primary data was collected from 92 student respondents across several universities in Semarang through a structured questionnaire. The results indicate that financial literacy does not have a significant effect on financial management behavior (t = 1.402; p = 0.165), while financial self-efficacy (t = 8.352; p = 0.000) and lifestyle (t = 5.114; p = 0.000) each exert a positive and significant influence. Simultaneously, the three variables explain 73.6% of the variance in financial management behavior (R² = 0.736; F = 26.22; p = 0.000). These findings confirm that psychological control capacity and social environmental pressure are stronger determinants of financial management behavior than cognitive knowledge alone. The knowledge-behavior gap identified in this study underscores the urgent need for financial education interventions that transcend mere knowledge transfer toward psychological capacity building, particularly in the context of digital payment ecosystems increasingly adopted by Generation Z.
