Abstract

This study aims to understand dancers' perceptions of mastering the elements of dance in the Rantak dance at Sanggar Rangkiang Minang. The dance elements studied include movement, space, time, and energy. The study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The subjects of this study are 10 dancers. Data was collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation, then analysed by collecting, grouping, and concluding the obtained data. The results show that dancers' perceptions of mastering the elements of dance in the Rantak dance are quite good. The dancers have understood and are able to apply the elements of movement, space, time, and energy in performing the Rantak dance. Although there are still some challenges, like not maximising energy use and precise movement transitions, regular practice and guidance from the coach help the dancers improve their skills. Thus, mastering these dance elements is key to producing good Rantak dance movements that fit the dance's character.
