Abstract

The growing crisis of housing affordability in urban environments necessitates a rethinking of spatial and policy paradigms. As a spatial manifestation of economic and demographic shifts, micro-housing has emerged as a compact, efficient response to escalating land values, rapid urbanization, and evolving household structures. Employing a systematic literature review (SLR), this study interrogates empirical discourses on micro-housing and evaluates the applicability of the Evidence-Based Design (EBD) paradigm in assessing its viability across spatial, social, and market dimensions. The analysis reveals that micro-housing—when informed by post-occupancy evaluations (POE), spatial modularity, and integrative policy frameworks—holds promise as a deliberate intervention in distorted housing markets. Advancing an EBD-based evaluation model, this study advocates a transdisciplinary framework for micro-housing development that foregrounds sustainability while aligning with the lived realities and aspirations of urban residents.
